As a little kid our family attended church occasionally, but we were never regular “goers”. My older brother and I would sometimes go to VBS or Sunday School at a local church in Gastonia, whenever their church van would roll through our apartment complex. After we moved out into Kings Mountain, we were so far away from civilization (laughs) that no church van would come that far to pick us up. So for about four years our family didn’t attend church. However, my sixth grade year a friend of my moms invited our family to visit her church. About three months after we’d been attending they’re church, both I, and my older brother, made professions of salvation. Being in the “Bible belt”, though, meant that my faith didn’t really affect my life. I lived in a sort of spiritual haze for about three and a half years. My salvation was more like my “get-out-of-Hell-free” card.
When we moved to Wisconsin, I met the teens at BBC, and things totally changed for me. My entire Christian life, up until that point, had just been passive. There was no need for me to really be on fire for God, be a faithful witness for him or even be consistent in having a quiet time with Him. Spending time with the teens here at church really opened my eyes to what Christianity can and ought to be. I got my life right with the Lord, and began to use my life for Him. Nearly three years later, I can say God has totally changed my life, through the people and especially the teens in this church. : )
